Fashion Illustration: Dubstep Collection
Advanced Fashion Drawing and Illustration is a class in which students develop croquis, techniques of rendering floats and mechanical drawings, and techniques for rendering fabrics with multi media. While part of the advanced illustration class, I created a mini collection of six looks representing the spirit of Dubstep. I researched instruments commonly used in the genre, including the DJ table, electric keyboard, amplifier, and headphones. I also chose adjectives to inspire the emotion of my mini collection: futuristic, energetic, active, urban and streetwear.
Each look in the collection features fiber optic fabrics and accessory details which would glow in the dark if the collection were constructed. In addition to fiber optics, I’ve designed two original prints: the DJ table print (looks 1 and 3) and the paint splatter print (looks 4, 5 and 6). Other details to note include the original shoe designs and printed tights.
The project parameters included:
- Contemporary women wearing modern apparel and accessories inspired by the genre Dubstep, as well as the shapes, forms and characteristics of chosen instruments;
- Development of figures in motion;
- Accurate rendering of textiles and prints by hand and using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop;
- Thoughtful presentation of figures and background development suitable for the genre.
